Gomes on 22tracks.com

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

22tracks.com is a website set up to be a jukebox for various music genres, with each genre having 22 tracks in the jukebox – hence the name. The tunes for each genre are selected by various Amsterdam djs, and for dubstep/grime, that means Gomes is in control. Each week new tunes get added, and the genres range rock to dancehall to disco, so check out some other stuff while your there.  Gomes keeps the dubstep/grime section loaded with fresh new tunes, and the site always includes a link to the artists website so you can purchase the track is you so desire. Great way to hear new tunes, and unlike a mix, here you can hear the full song. Check it out: http://22tracks.com/#/dubstep-grime/

New Brutuzz & Giographic Mixtape

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

mix-front

Our homeboy Brutuzz and his pal Giographic just put out (and by that I mean created and posted on the internet) a new mixtape entitled “Dubble Dragon”.  Chock-full of dope tunes, this mix tape weaves here and there, mainly staying in dubstep but exploring around a bit with some other fun sounds. Of the course the mixing is tight too, so check it out:

Review : RELOCATE – “Hard Boogie For Dub Swingers EP (Part Two)” – IBR003

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Yo, you know we’re all about dubstep, and sometimes we gotta shine the light outside of holland and recognize the rest of the world. So, let’s check out what we got in the mail recently worthy of your ears…

This week we got some cool stuff from the sunny side of Europe. Based out of Lisbon & Barcelona, Iberian Records is run by Conspira & Corsario Riddim (both are producer duos from Lisbon & Barcelona respectively).  They claim to be the first from Spain/Portugal to release dubstep vinyl and they definitly rep their climate, releasing tunes from local Spanish and Portugese producers.

Coming out in September, IBR003 features tuneage from Barcelona beatmaker Relocate. The A-side is actually a remix of his tune Dot Dot Dash by Portuguese Kudoro pushers Buraka Som Sistema (if you don’t know about them, do so now!). The original tune (found on IBR002) is a slower, brooding tune, rather minimal in its sounds. The remix gives it some “umph”, starting off chill, then building a bit, some voices & clapping, and then womp – things kick into a solid, dancy beat and bass sound that reminds me of a fire siren going off in slow motion underwater.  The upbeat tempo keeps things lively – this is definitly one to get chicks movin’ them hips.

On the B-side you will find a heavy thumper of a tune. The bass sounds like the heartbeat heard in the head of Tyranosaurus as he wanders through a prehistoric jungle, every now and then getting interested in something, interest peaks, and then whatever it was disappears, and he goes on his midnight journey.  I dig this tune a lot.

All in all, a solid release from an interesting label. Keep your eyes open for anything from Iberian – and get to know about sun influenced dubstep.

Parties this week

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Yo, the week is starting off nice with the weather being like it is in Holland, let’s hope it keeps up. On the dubstep agenda this week there are some pretty good parties to check out:

Friday, August 21
Sonic Warfare @ Melkweg, Amsterdam

w/ Loefah (uk), Hijak (uk), Grimelock (be), & Piro (nl)

Its been a while since Loefah’s been in town, so will be cool to check him out again. I remember Grimelock’s set from  a past Lockdown party, and shit went off, so I expect more of the same here. Big up Piro, back from vacation, he oughta have a fresh take on things.

Saturday, August 22

UK Funky @ Panama, Amsterdam

main room (uk funky / house) : Dj NG (uk) & MC Versatile (uk), Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano (nl), Shermanology live (nl), Simon Titus (nl), & MC Spyder

studio (dubstep / dark garage) – hosted by Subbalicious : Osiris (nl), Sun O.C. & Creative (nl), & G-Selecter

UK Funky is a fresh new sound, so we’re helping kick off a fresh new night. The main room will have Rinse.fm dj Ng along with MC Versatile (whom you should know from “the Funky Anthem“). Also the main room will have several dutch djs pushing a housey/funky mix – Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano are definitly dudes to check for.  The small room, hosted by Subbalicious, will have a deeper, bassier vibe, with less house & more weight.

For guestlist to this event, email : info@subbalicious.com

Saturday, August 15 : Dubstance VIII @ Nieuwe Nor, Heerlen

This weekend, Southern dubstep pushers, Dubstance are teaming up with Belgian dubstep label Je Me’en Fish for another party at Nieuwe Nor. The lineup is a mix of dutch & belgian dudues:

Vista [10Bag/Rottun/3.5 Records/UK]
Bunzero [Sub Nerds/Bass Tourist/Sub.fm|BE]
Aphone (live) [Zone Inconnue/BE]
Myrkur [Radical/F4Tmusic/Sub.fm/Dubstance/NL]
Marked [Dubstance/Heerlen Massive/NL]
Dog Mask [Dubstance/NL]
visuals bij Loudanov [Dubstance/DNNB]

Nice lineup here, Vista from the UK utilizes more of that 2-step sound; Bunzero always drops a good show, danceable and fresh; Aphone from Je Me’en Fish does a more triphop inspired sound, with lots of melody; Myrkur is also featured on the forthcoming Je Me’en Fish release, and will surely be doing his deep, melodic stuff for people to zone out on; Marked & Dogmask round off the bill with their local pizazz and Dubstance style. So if your in the south, head for Heerlen this Saturday.
