the Dubstep.nl SoundCloud group

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

soundcloudOn the Dubstep.nl forum people have been posting their productions and looking for feedback for a long time. Recently though, producer Inofaith led a rallying up of dutch producers into a SoundCloud group. If you don’t know, SoundCloud is an online platform for sharing music that is strictly about posting music and getting feedback. Rather good tool to use, and if you a dutch producer I recommend you join the group. Big up to Inofaith for the iniative.

Here are some of our favorite tracks:

Some upfront heaviness from DZD2 :

An african safari at dawn type dubstep from June Miller :

There are plenty more good tunes & producers there so check it out and give some feedback : http://soundcloud.com/groups/dubstep-nl

Lockdown 010 – party review

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Last Saturday, the Lockdown crew threw another party, this time at some warehouse / squat place up in Amsterdam north. Originally slated to be a 24 hour event on an island (idea scraped due to safety / permit  issues), party 010 ended being a roughly 10 hour outdoor reggae & dubstep fest. The location had a big open “parking lot” filled with beat up couches, chairs, and benches, lots of weeds and shrubs, a couple overturned boats, random rusting objects, rope, & a stage with a overhang to protect it from rain. Oh yea, and King Shiloh Soundsystem was there to fill the area with their copious amounts of speaker boxes & bass tones.

I showed up early expecting the summer sun to bring out the heads on a Saturday afternoon, but the crowd was a bit sparce. No worries, I pulled out a can of Heineken and started rolling a spliff (which ended up being impossible to do in the wind) – and then layed back in a chair, under some shade, and enjoyed the Reggae vibes for an hour or two. Eventually people started rolling in and finally some friends showed up, so I got up from my throne and walked about to party some.

Around 5 or so, J.A.M. came on the decks and got things going in the dubstep vein. Following him was Piro b2b Plus for a couple hours. Around this time I was busy dancing, smoking, eating (the food great : €5 for a hamburger on a big ass bun, potato salad, & sliced tomatoes, cucumber, & onions – lekker!), and chatting with the heads that had showed up.  Nicon was up from Rotterdam, XL from NoizBoiz was there too (I see him like everywhere!), Blauwe Fedde was back from his punk rock vacation in Spain (see picture below), & I had a good chat with Piro. My girlfriend showed up to after she got off work, and then the drinking increased. The rest of the line up was Aardvarck, Cinnaman, & Juha. I wish I could give a better synopsis of all the sets, but I thinking leaving it at: solid tunes on a solid sound system, no repeats, new shit & classics. All djs did a good job, but I was there to party, so that’s what I busied myself with.

The beer got warm and the sun went down, but things kept on rolling. There was no hassle from the cops (did see them drive by though), the location had clean & functional bathrooms, the sound system was dope, the djs kept the vibes high, and though a bigger could have been had, the crowd was a fun & animated one (beer tossing, trees in shopping carts, crutches getting swung, you know the deal). The party ended around 11pm (an hour later than planned – so no one could really complain) and I headed with my girl  into the city to get some more beer & enjoy the night life a little bit.  Big up Lockdown for a chill, summer weekend dub fest – was definitly enjoyed.
