Rokus, if you don’t know, is an Amsterdam dj doing his thing with the Lemon Community, whom you might know from their tents at various festivals across Holland in the summers (yea, the ones with dubstep, grime, and other tuneage we dig). Anyways, here’s a mixtape from Rokus for people who want a bit of the “g-ness” to their beats.
Well its more like a scene from a movie than an actual movie, but this is basically Dubstep torture interrogation. I keep wanting to say something about this clip, without giving too much away, but the minimalism of the storyline stops me. So just watch the clip and enjoy the music & drops synced with time lapse and writhing in anguish. Tek Step, not known for being subdued, teamed up with Kaus Media for this one.

So Groningen took a little longer than the rest of Holland to catch onto the dubstep sound, but their trying their hardest to make up for it this year. The latest thing is a new party call Free Bass @ Vera. The following is what they sent, and I kept in Dutch, ’cause if you can’t read Dutch, step your game up.
“Eerste aflevering van Free Bass, een dubstepavond in Vera. Met The Others (Dub Police, Tempa), Gumnaam (+ live sitar & vocalist), Bassmachine (Ballyoo Dubs, Freebass).
The Others maken niet allen bijzonder vette platen maar zijn ook goede DJ’s, zoals te horen bij hun Frabic live sets. Behoren tot de top dubstep producers van dit moment. Gumnaam komt samen met live sitar en vocalist (23.30, wees op tijd!), een spannende combinatie die goed wordt ontvangen. Organisator/resident Bassmachine draait zelden in zijn hometown (enkel op een paar privé feestjes en vorig jaar met succes in de kelder bij Clash) gaat nog even lekker los na The Others.
Freebass zou begin dit jaar al plaatsvinden, maar het was lastig om data vrij te maken bij Vera en Rusko zegde af wegens verhuizing naar LA, maar nu dan echt… We willen behalve het ragwerk ook de wat avontuurlijker dubstep/bass(line) georiënteerde muziek programmeren en bij voorkeur in combinatie met LIVE.”

De Grote Prijs van Nederland is a national talent search of sorts, which might sound cheesey, but when you realize names like Junkie XL, Opgezwolle, & Nobody Beats the Drum all were helped forward to fame via the Grote Prijs, it seems a lot less so. Regardless, it is a comptetion and it is filled with talent, and like we reported a couple months back, the talent we’re backing is [Moos]. Finding himself in the finals of the “Dance Producers” category, [Moos] is the only representitive for the dubstep sound, and at that is putting out a more relaxed, wobblerless dubstep. Check out his liveset from Club 3voor12 in Utrecht (from Nov 26th, 2009):

Something else to check out is the online mix of all the Grote Prijs finalists (free downloads!). And don’t forget to roll down to Melkweg on the 12th to support [Moos], who should be performing live with VJ Jorrit, so expect an interesting show.

The dude from Glasgow with some southern swerve, Taz Buckfaster, is gonna be in Haarlem tonight drop some sickness. Last time he was supposed to come he got held up over some passport issues, but tonight he’s there for sure. Our homey Akkachar, the Rwina don, will be there to support, so expect a whole dose of that melodic, kinda wonky, dripped in syrup type dubsteppish beats. And oh yea, Stenchman will be there too, so go and get messy in Haarlem.
