Skanky Panky Records is a new label focusing the expanding “glitch-hop” genre. Run by William Breakspear & SixAM, who originally come from the DnB / breakbeat side of things, Skanky Panky seems be putting a bit of sassiness (uhm, by this i think i mean appealing to UK chicks with neon clothes) and bassines into it. Some cool stuff here, with a range of sounds/styles. Some of my fav stuff on the label is coming from Canadian producer/dj JmeJ, so make sure to check out his tunes! Anyways, here’s some music to drive around in the city with:

Our man Gumnaam has an EP coming out, and in honor of that, will be playing at the next Brrrap! party (Wed, April 21 @ Bitterzoet, Amsterdam). The EP is all original productions with additional vocals from Tilburg singeress Sinna Casita (who will also make an appearance at the Brrrap! party), Maikal X, and London’s Naba Napalm. We reviewed the EP in Brrrap! issue #7, so check that out to see what we had to say. Here’s a sample track for you to get your own ideas of what to expect:

BRRRAP002 : TMSV – Ground Zero / Flames

Available at Beatport and Juno

“Loving the rhythmic work on Flames – and the snare sits so nicely in the mix. Ground zero is nice and sinister – Bit of a Distance vibe on the stabs/guitar sounds – and the sub is nice when it jumps up and down … I can see it gaining support from quite a few people.” – DFRNT

“Loving the dubbed out vibes of flames, reminds me of early digital mystikz, but my fave out of the 2 has to be Ground Zero. The chuggy guitar took me back to my metal roots; love the gritty feel mixed with the eerie melody … deffo wouldn’t sound out of place in a Distance set. ” – Cogent

Dutch producer HALP, aka Thomas de Rijk from Rotterdam, has a release set to come out on Starkey’s Seclusiasis label. Among them I guess the tune Leek, which is a pretty cool glitchy type of tune (think Flying Lotus, Slugabed, etc.) but one that I actually find dope instead of forcefully stuttered and ball-less (as I find a lot of glitchy stuff to be). HALP tough puts some cool melodies overtop of a really energetic bassline thing. I dunno, check it out and see if its yourthing, enough people like it, I like it, you probably will too. Keep your eyes on HALP. For more on HALP, check out the interview w/ him at the Lowriders Collective blog (Rotterdam glitchy/dubby party night & label) :
This pic is from HALP, and is a pretty good visual of his sound.

Some dude we never heard of before named Mart just posted up a pretty heavy dubstep banger in the dutch dubstep producers sound cloud. Like I said, I don’t know who this cat is, but with a hyves account called: jeanpierreledouche.hyves.nl, he’s gotta be cool. There are numerous decent tunes on his page, but the standouts are the top two dubstep tunes. The first is “darth vader”, which ganks the Star Wars imperial march melody, and puts it up against some slamming, moshpit style wobbler bass line. And some are gonna hate on that style, but to each his own, and this shit bangs, so take it or leave it. The other tune “hide in the woods”, sounds like some Middle Earth style dubstep. Digital never sounded so medieval to me, until this tune came along. Dubstep knights, if any exist, will surely be coming back from wars to this tune. Anyways, here are the tunes, so dig in:

We’ve been jamming a bit of more housey mix up stuff lately, and something cool we got in was this tune from Subsource : Tales from the Doombox (Raffertie Remix) – listen here: files.me.com/getinltd/tvwmhk.mp3 download here: files.me.com/getinltd/tvwmhk.mp3
Subsource happen to be on the same label as dutch duo The Mighty Fools who are currently in the midst of blowing the fuck up. Subsource have more d’n'b sound to them, and we like that too. Check out there latest video, which is a hardrock/dnb kinda mash up with some wobble in the breakdowns. Personally diggin this tune, check it out:

Recently though, producer Inofaith led a rallying up of dutch producers into a SoundCloud group. If you don’t know, SoundCloud is an online platform for sharing music that is strictly about posting music and getting feedback. Rather good tool to use, and if you a dutch producer I recommend you join the group. Big up to Inofaith for the iniative.
