Skanky Panky Records

Skanky Panky Records is a new label focusing the expanding “glitch-hop” genre. Run by William Breakspear & SixAM, who originally come from the DnB / breakbeat side of things, Skanky Panky seems be putting a bit of sassiness (uhm, by this i think i mean appealing to UK chicks with neon clothes) and bassines into it. Some cool stuff here, with a range of sounds/styles. Some of my fav stuff on the label is coming from Canadian producer/dj JmeJ, so make sure to check out his tunes! Belgian dubstep documentary

Belgium knows whats up when it comes to dubstep, and if you’ve been to any of the parties down there, you’ll surely know what we mean. If you haven’t been down there for a rave or 2, then perhaps this documentary will give a bit of insight into their view of dubstep and the experiences they’ve had with it.

The People Under the Stairs

Last weekend was tough, so Sunday found me on a couch with some spliffs, pizza, and movies. One of the best flicks from Sunday was “The People Under the Stairs” from Wes Craven (1991). Man, this movie is a wild one. Plot is something like: young kid breaks into a house with Ving Rhames in order to steal some old coins so his family can pay the rent — the house though is owned by 2 psychos, and also houses an assortment of unwanted/cannibal teens who live in bedrooms, basement cages, between the walls, and obviously, under the stairs.

“What goes on in this house is a sin, but what goes on under the stairs is a nightmare.”

Brass Knuckles @ Panama, Amsterdam this Thursday

Time for another dose of “tooth grinding dubstep” as Subbalicious does their Brass Knuckles party at Panama this Thursday,May 6th. The line-up includes G Double (Rinse.FM / Sub Freq – UK), Demon ( Macabre Unit / 6FBS – UK)Osiris, MC Quest One, and VJ Class/A. Should be another night of hard hitting dubstep. Also, there will be a flatland bmx showcase from Navid Salenki (see video below).

Gumnaam EP Preview

Our man Gumnaam has an EP coming out, and in honor of that, will be playing at the next Brrrap! party (Wed, April 21 @ Bitterzoet, Amsterdam). The EP is all original productions with additional vocals from Tilburg singeress Sinna Casita (who will also make an appearance at the Brrrap! party), Maikal X, and London’s Naba Napalm. We reviewed the EP in Brrrap! issue #7, so check that out to see what we had to say. Here’s a sample track for you to get your own ideas of what to expect:

VBS.TV Looks at Pirate Radio in the UK
