Brrrap! Magazine issue #7 is out now! This time around we interview Akkachar (Rwina Records), Micky (Naked Lunch), and Kjell van Ginkel (MESMO Clothing & Products). The issue also features a centerfold artpiece from Jelmer Noordeman, loads of reviews (Dutch releases and international ones), and plenty more stuff too. If you didn’t make it to the Brrrap! party last Saturday to pick up a hardcopy, just come to the next Brrrap! party on the 17th @ Bitterzoet and pick one up. Kickoff van de Brrrap! avonden én de eerste release op Brrrap! Records
Brrrap! begon 2 jaar geleden als een magazine welke schrijft over Nederlandse Dubstep en urban culture. In 2010 is Brrrap! Eindelijk toe aan een maandelijkse club avond en tevens een record label. Op zaterdag 30 Januari, 2010 zullen we de eerste editie van de maandelijkse club avond gaan hosten in Club Bitterzoet te Amsterdam. Op de avond zullen er een aantal producers van het Brrrap! label ten gehore komen, zoals Piro & Proxima uit Eindhoven en TMSV uit Utrecht. Ook is Rdubz uit Londen uitgenodigd, een producer die in issue 6 is besproken. De alombekende Osiris, samen met MC Quest One en Class/A Visuals maken de lijst voor deze avond af. Naast muziek zal Brrrap! ook een art & clothing exhibitie gaan houden met Jelmer Noordeman, Zward & Dstruct (Tegendraads).

Hoewel RDubz bekend is om zijn electro producties, heeft hij zich de laatste tijd ook op Dubstep gefocussed, en brengt daarmee een erg melodieuze en dance-driven vibe. Langzaam, maar zeker ontvangt hij steeds meer erkenning uit de dubstep scene, waarbij de releases op Basspunch Records en Haunted Records zeker aan bij hebben gedragen.

Piro (Bekend om zijn Dubstep sets op feesten zoals Oi!, Lockdown en Sine) & Proxima (Bekend van z’n DnB producties op internationale labels zoals Frequency Recordings en Renegade Recordings) hebben besloten om samen Dubstep te produceren met sterke percussieve invloeden, een licht industrieel tintje, en veel muzikaliteit. Hun eerste release is tevens de eerste release van Brrrap! Records (BRRRAP001 – Piro & Proxima – “Distant Shores” / Blue Dog”). Om dit te vieren zullen de heren een back-to-back live set gaan doen, welke begint met dubstep en eindigt met drum’n bass.

Nederlandse producer TMSV heeft misschien nog niet heel veel ervaring, maar wel ongelovelijk veel talent. Met een release gepland ook op het Brrrap! label en andere internationale labels, is het iemand waar je in het komende jaar nog veel van zult gaan horen. Met veel van zijn eigen tracks zal TMSV ervoor gaan zorgen dat de dansvoer gaat trillen.

Osiris is een van Neerlandsch top djs met veel ervaring en sets op vrijwel alle Dubstep feesten en festivals in Nederland. He runt het Nederlandse dubstepforum (www.dubstep.nl) en is een partner in Brrrap!.
Verwacht veel (nog) onuitgebrachte tracks en dansvloer bangers.

Onze host van de avond, Quest One, komt oorspronkelijk uit de Drum’n bass, maar kan werkelijk flowen over alles!

Jelmer’s art kun je zien in de aankomende editie (nummer 7) van Brrrap! Magazine, maar is ook op andere plekken te zien zoals op shawles, maar ook in de ramen van de Diesel Store in Amsterdam. Zijn stijl is handgetekend met sterke lijnen, bordevol symmetrie, en door de stad geinspireerde onderwerpen. Hij maakt ook kleding, toys en art met Zward.
TEGENDRAADS / DSTRUCT (NL)
De Tegendraads shop is een onafhankelijke shop met betaalbare en gelimiteerde t-shirts en kunst ontworpen door verschillende ontwerpers (o.a. Dstruct). Here we are with the introduction to 2 sets of Dutch dj/producers, who both just happen to have the same amount of S’s in their name.
Let’s start off with Switched Sources.
Who are you guys and where do you come from?
Nick: We are two dudes from Haarlem, both 19 years young and I live on pink fondant cakes.
Sivar: …. sigh.
How did you get into music / dubstep?
Sivar: I listened to a lot of drum’n bass, still am actually. When I met Nick, me and some friends took him to some dnb parties, which later on became dubstep parties.
Nick: After I went to those parties, I went from house production to dubstep, because dubstep is much sicker.
How do you work together and who does what?
Nick: So far, I do most of the productions. Sivar needs to hurry his ass up and help me with that. And when I have a gig Sivar can watch. (joke!)
We both work with FruityLoops in combination with Massive, Addictive Drums, Battery and a lot of cool samples and effects.
Sivar: I found a set of decks on which we can play now and we use Nick’s mixer. I have only started producing until recently, but I need to find myself a new computer.
How is it going with the releases then?
Nick: All my current productions are still unsigned, though several labels have showed interest in my tracks.. I expect a release any time now.
We are also experimenting with dnb productions, so stay tuned and keep an eye out to our myspace. BRRRRRRRRRAP!

Last but not least, we asked the same questions to Sinister Souls who struck anonimity on the head by releasing tracks on digital label Rottun Recordings.
Who are you and where do you come from?
We are producers Adriaan de Koning (Antistar) and Fred Huurdeman (Kwanto) from Utrecht. Together we form dubstep/dnb collective ‘Sinister Souls’ and make part of the Utreg Massive (a large crew from Utrecht containing multiple djs, producers and mcs).
How did you get into music / dubstep?
We wanted to make noise, plus we got tired from fast rhythmz. the majority of dubstep we came across back in the day was pretty dull to us, so we decided to make our own approach to the dubstep sounds, which is harder, filthier, has more of a variety and is darker. Since we started producing dubstep in 2008 we came across inspiring producers in the likes of Downlink, Nero, Excision, BSE and Broken Note.
How do you work together and who does what?
We make drafts of tracks independently, but we also finish them together. Fred focusses more on beats and basslines and Adriaan always fixes the synths and does the promotion. We always seem to be in sync, and we complete each other, so we never make something that only one of us likes. Pooping out a new tune needs patience, perfectionism and lots of beer.
How did you get a release on Rottun Recordings?
We had sent tracks over to labels, but Black Sun Empire really helped us out. They had mentioned to Excision that we were “one to watch”. Excision contacted us, after which we sent 2 tracks over, namely ‘Caution’ and ‘Power Surge’ (our first 2 dubstep productions). Power Surge has now been signed to S.C.U.M. (NL) and will be released on vinyl. Next to Caution, we sent four other tracks to Excision, of which Definition of Silence, Mech March and void were picked for our first EP (Definition of Silence EP [ROTD018])
Well, both very interesting duo’s of which we both expect them to go far with their music.
Oh yeah, did we mention you can witness these stars live on BRASS KNUCKLES at Panama in Amsterdam on Thursday the 21st of this month (January). You could even witness them for free if you email info@subbalicious.com asking for guestlist spots for you and your friends.
Mixcloud.com is holding a competition for dj’s to win a chance at djing at the upcoming BLOC weekend festival in the UK (March 12-14). Rokus, if you don’t know, is an Amsterdam dj doing his thing with the Lemon Community, whom you might know from their tents at various festivals across Holland in the summers (yea, the ones with dubstep, grime, and other tuneage we dig).
